Greenheart Projects is now situated in the Knysna, Sedgefield and Wilderness area and can help with any eco-assessment and planning project.

Eco-assessment and planning with mixed farming, utilising each part of the ecosystem to best advantage and integrating all into the whole with good management and innovative ideas lead to high productivity & economic viability that remains stable and sustainable for the future. Recent past eco projects are covered in the Botfriends web page and the Botfriends Facebook page or more recently in Greenheart Facebook Page.

Crystal Waters & Lochinvar farms Eco-Assessment & Planning

Good Eco-Assessment & Planning leads to economic viability & stable sustainability
Crystal Waters & Lochinvar were highly productive mixed agricultural farms.
They are now all planted to timber (Sappi) with a resultant huge loss in biodiversity.

All activities were well integrated, soils were well fed (feed the soil and it will feed the plants), with maximum recycling into an integrated whole. Fresh milk (1 000 litres/day), pigs, beef, Sussex Stud, pastures, maize seed production, some timber production and year round fruit and vegetable production. Regularly won the soil conservation prize with well contoured, highly productive lands and pastures.

As one can see from the recent google image, it is still outproducing the surrounding area, which has no planning and is still badly managed. Much erosion of the area to the right will probably never recover.

Eco-Assessment & Planning involves a through assessment of all the details of the ecosystem and the interactions which occur. Possible interventions need to be identified within the constraints of the natural resources and within the client’s constraints. Problems need to be clearly identified. So often solutions are sought without clear identification of the problem. Planning proposals can then be made within the budget and timeline of all stakeholders with alternatives, potential risks and problem areas. Implementation of the plan of action requires follow-up assessments, amendments and potential risks which may be involved.

Many other projects, some of which are ongoing, were reported in the Botfriends website (now no longer exists). Now in the Eco Blog page (over 90 posts on environmental issues) which also contains other ongoing project discussions, data and comments.
