This is a great video on the Black Mambas poaching control unit. It is interesting in using a whole new approach to conversation. They are not the traditional policing unit. Instead the main objective is to teach the community to value the wild resources, through the mothers and children of the community.
It is obviously long term and will only really become effective with time. It does seem to be working already, just difficult to measure it. But most things in nature cannot easily be measured, especially in the short term. The results of good or bad practices take time to manifest themselves.

Tradition conservation processes have not worked as well as they should in the past. New approaches are needed and the involvement of the local community is one of the most important. The BACP is such an initiative, providing work for locals, training and involvement and using locals for policing. Raising money for environmental aspects is always difficult, but now with climate change it has assumed a much higher value.
