Kogelberg Biosphere Video

A great video on the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. This is an old video, but nature does not get out of date. In fact the Kogelberg was probably in slightly better shape when this video was made, than it is now.

The original Kogelberg Biosphere was only 18 211 hectares, now a bit bigger. Some of the richest biodiversity in the world. In fact almost twice as many species as rainforests. Mountains with an abundance of seeps and wetlands before the dunes and beaches. In a very short distance one goes from a marine environment reserve along the coast, through very dry areas of Fynbos, but with an abundance of wetlands, to 3 000 foot mountains with wet forested kloofs.

Greenheart is working on a management plan for the area on either side of the Estuary including the Hawston heights. The species diversity in the Hawston heights is still good. Unfortunately, there are many invasive species at the foot of the mountain. These are the dark and light green areas in the picture below. The mountains in the background are managed by Cape Nature, and are mostly in reasonable good shape.
