Botfriends: A little history and our affiliation to WESSA. Botfriends has its own constitution, and operates fully independently, with an elected committee representing its members. Any individual or organisation that abides by our constitution is eligible to become a member. Botfriends was founded in March 1997. We raise funds from minimal membership fees and special project donations. The elected committee are volunteers.
The vision and mission statements of Botfriends are clearly defined. There are a number of active projects most of which have been reported on in the news page, under various headings.
Botfriends is linked and is an institutional member of the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA), who have their own website and a Facebook page and Botfriends operates under their Friends of Nature Areas Scheme’s main constitution. The Western Cape branch of WESSA is the most active branch of WESSA and consists of a number of different friends groups.
